Valentines Day 2008

So here we are. Once again Valentines day has come around, and this is either a good thing, bad thing or of no consequence, depending on who you are and how you view it and I guess that has something to do with are astrological signs.

Of-course there is always a story behind such days, and this one is no different. St Valentine was apparently a Priest, and I quite like the sound of him. It is said that in third century Rome their was an Emperor called Claudius II. For some absurd reason he decided that single men made far better soldiers than those who were married, so being an all powerful Emperor he outlawed marriage for young men, hoping of-course that his armies would become stronger and better fighters! This is where Valentine steps in. He wasn’t impressed and thought it desperately unfair to do this to people, so he started to marry couples in secret. The Emperor Claudius II obviously found out and thought the best solution was to kill Valentine. Slightly harsh, but that was the third century, although not that much has changed since then in some cases!!

Another such legend of Valentine was that he was actually in prison, and while being inside his cell he fell deeply in love with his jailers daughter, shortly before he was put to death (he didn’t have much luck this Valentine) he wrote a letter to his love and signed it ‘your Valentine’, which may of-course been where the whole thing started. There are various stories, myths and legends of how and who and when these events took place to make Valentines day what it is today. I doubt we shall ever know the true meaning of where it began but that’s one of the things I like about such days, the mystery.

Of-course it is now 2008 and Valentines Day is, I can imagine, a multi trillion commercial money making day of the year. The shops are full to bursting with thousands of red and pink Valentines Day cards covering every surface they can find in every shop imaginable.

So I thought I would help some of you out if you are stuck knowing what to get for your partner or someone you like.

Aries ~These lovely cuties do love to receive cards and gifts, so anything is sure to please the baby of the Zodiac. Choccies and flowers, balloons and teddies galore will no doubt please.

Taurus ~ If you are with a Miss or indeed Mr Taurus, I was strongly suggest booking a lovely restaurant but perhaps one with lots of talking points and things of interest..just don’t forget the candles and violins!

Gemini ~ Anything, we really don’t mind, just like to know we’ve been thought about…we won’t let anyone forget either, we are the greatest hint droppers!

Cancer ~ Romance, romance and a bottle of champagne should do the trick! A home cooked meal with all their favourite ingredients would go down well!

Leo ~ Whatever you get for a Leo, make sure it’s big and expensive and something they can show off to everyone!

Virgo ~Hmm, tricky, they will probably moan whatever you get them, but you have to try right?

Libra ~ Lovely Libra, make it Romantic, these people are very romantic and will expect you to have not forgotten at the very least!

Scorpio ~ Forget the restaurant just book a flash hotel room with some Champers on ice !!!

Sagittarius ~ If your going to do something for a Sag make sure it’s good or else don’t bother!

Capricorn ~ I would tend to go for something practical for this earthy person.

Aquarius ~ Make it quirky and unusual for this oddball, but you may have to remind them of why it is your giving them presents in the first place. They don’t hold such days as at all significant.

Pisces ~ The Pisces would of-course love to have this day everyday so when it finally come make sure you spoil your Pisces rotten!

Now obviously it’s all just a bit of fun and if you know your partner well enough you should know how to please them. If your partner likes astrology you could for instance find out what their signs birth stones are etc and then perhaps get something around that, far more meaning than a fluffy teddy from the local newsagent. The best thing of-course, about this day of Valentine, is that we know that someone has thought about us, let’s face it we all like to know that the person we love has taken some time to think of us and what we would like.
