![]() The 12 Signs of the Zodiac |
Astrology has been studied for hundreds of years. It is an interesting and fascinating subject that has many followers. The occidental, or western zodiac, is made up initially of 12 Sun signs which are, Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces.
Each sign is under the rule of a planet, sometimes these are shared between signs, for example, the planet Mercury not only rules the sign of Gemini but also that of Virgo. The signs are also split into groups called elements, and these are, Earth, Air, Fire and Water. These elements tell us certain things about each sign such as people born under a Water sign will be more sensitive than say a person born under a Fire sign, who are usually far more hot headed. The 12 signs also have their own qualities, Mutable, which is about the mind and intellect, Cardinal, which is more to do with getting things done and Fixed signs which like to be in control of situations.
There are also Moon signs which we all have as well. To find this out you have to calculate the position of the Moon at the time of your birth to work out which sign the Moon was travelling through at that particular time. In-fact your Moon sign sign can give a far more in-depth reading of you than just your sun sign alone.
To get a true idea of how the planets affect who you are you can get a birthchart done. This will tell you for instance which sign Venus was in at your time of birth, thus determining how you will fair in love. This can be done with all the signs in all the planets, so you end up with a true birth chart which can tell you all sorts of infomation, which, if used wisely can be helpful throughout your life.
There are in-fact many forms of astrology. Some of which don't involve the stars and planets, such as Chinese astrology. This form of astrology is also very ancient and there are many legends surrounding how it came about. The Chinese Zodiac is made up of 12 animals. These are the Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig. Like Western Astrology the Chinese Zodiac also has elements and these are: Fire, Metal, Wood, Water and Earth. Each element gives a different feeling to each sign just as the western Zodiac. Instead of looking to the month of your birth to find out which sign you are, with Chinese Astrology it is the year which we look at to determine whether you are, for instance, a Rabbit or a Dragon. Each sign happens every 12 years, so for instance, if we take the Tiger year of 1974, the next Tiger year after that wasn't until 1986. Some people also mix Western astrology with the Chinese Zodiac, so say your birthday is on the 15th June 1978, this would make you a Gemini under Western astrology and an Earth Horse using the Chinese, and this can open up a whole new way of looking at things!!!
