My rising sign is ophiuchus and as far as I knew I did know what this sign represents contrary to .. I thought that the serpent holder was originally represented not by a man but by a bird.. AKA the pheonix also the national symbols of both the US and Mexico as well as Germany.. Supposedly this is a sign of Regeneration and rebirth.. And I swear I remember living before this life.. I am DEC 14… After knowing my numerology numbers and Chinese sign and now this… I’m not buying this!! Saggitarius is the 9th sign!Numerolgy 9 ALSO saggitarius representing the 9th sign… But #9 will be simular to ophiuchus on what they are describing! I do not agree with the dates and what most of it says.. I’m know my self and all my major signs… and I can see why this is not accepted in astrology!! Especially with a ruling a number 9 as Saggitarius … there is humain in that number.. I just don’t agree.. I’m not being ignorant… I think most of this ophiuchus stuff is just phycological!! My birthday is Dec 9th. I had heard about this “13th sign” and wanted to do some research (and will continue to do so). I am not so sure myself whether Ophiuchus is me but I respect that other people might believe in it and therefore don’t feel it is necessary to refer to it as “this whole Ophiuchus shit”. I find it very disrespectful.
I appreciate your information Becky, despite your beliefs, it’s just disappointing that you have supported someone else’s disrespectful thoughts in such a way.

I have been perusing some of the medieval and renaisance text that mention their varing theories of a possible 13th Zodiac.
My hypothesis is that this revision of the Zodiac also represents an oppuortunity for calendar reform. Thirteen months of 28 days each (4 weeks each month) plus one day, I call Yule of about 25/26 hours at the end and beginning of a year.
Another theory I am exploring is that Ophiuchus would represent the infant Hercules. An archetypical combination of Hero/GodKing and regenerating infant Redeemer. Feel free to add in any mythical celebrity you are comfortable with.

I am not a Virgo but if I am to accept this then I am apparently a Leo and that is far from the truth. I am through and through a Virgo and have literally no Leo traits. I think that the old Greek astrologers and all since disregard this as a primary sign, while acknowledging it as a constellation, for a reason.

Perhaps the reason a 13th month & zodiac sign are not acknowledged has to do Triskaidekaphobia, or the fear of the number thirteen. It is a common fear of people in our society, but why is a bit of a mystery. There are a few theories as to why thirteen is considered unlucky to so many people. It may be because in the Hebrew alphabet the thirteenth letter is M, the first letter in the word, “mavet,” which means death. The annunciation of the number four in many languages in the far east is similar to that of the word death, as well, and I think that western culture may have consciously or subconsciously picked up on that, because the sum of thirteen (1+3) is four. Another theory is because in ancient Babylonia, China, and Rome 12 was considered a number of completion and perfection, and is followed by 13 (Romans created the calendar).It makes more sense to have equal months of 28 days each. Christians may have stuck to the 12 month system because of Jesus’ last super in which 13 people were dining, and one was to betray him.
Why was it that Ophiuchus, the healer, perhaps preventer of death was chosen to be omitted?
Maybe humans living with 13 months made us too in sync with the universe, we needed something to throw us off/ create chaos.

Not believing in something which is there doesn’t make it go away. Not believing in a country you don’t like doesn’t mean it no longer exists, does it?
I mean, the constellation is clearly there. Western astrology may have decided not to use it, but it’s there all the same - don’t forget that astrology exists to sell itself. It was more a marketing decision than anything else.

Hello ALL
I am born on 11 December and since a little girl have somehow always felt different. There was always a healing energy presence but I could never actually put my finger on it. My mother is very ‘religious’ and does not agree with my interest in astrology and such like .. so only now as I am much older I am reading and looking into different things. I only very recently found out about this sign and somehow it makes the puzzle easier to understand. When my mom was going through a hard time when she was younger, I know I helped her through it, and I have done that on many occasions with friends and family, somehow in a silent way, a way that allows them to explore and come up with their own answers but somehow I have guided them. Also I have seen many people before they pass away, they come to visit or we happen to see them and all have a good time and then they pass away.. it’s all rather strange and each and everyday new things are coming to me.. there is so much I have learnt in the last few years.
My name is actually Angela.. and since a little girl I have just wanted to be like the angels and bring peace and healing. My life path is 11(2) to that could be part of it as well. I come from a family of 5 - have lots of aunts/uncles and cousins and left home the year after school,moved away to Tech and then 3 yrs later moved to a city far away.
With my husband we built up our own business and built our own house and although I am a quieter person, I certainly do know that I was a guide for my husband.
I am born in the year of the monkey (9th animal) and my inner animal is the Boar (12th animal) .. Reading about the 13th sign I think somehow they all fit together ??
As I look back, it has been such an interesting journey. I know without a doubt that we have angels that surround and help us and I have felt their presence often.

First off I feel that several of you are just frustrating your self with this 13th sign stuff. Quit watching the water boil and get on with what you know. This whole world is full of things that we like and don’t like. Simply pick up what you want and leave the rest.
Becky… I don’t think that you were being disrespectful or siding with any one regarding the post’s around 5-20-9. It seemed to me that you were allowing SEA to have his/her own opinion. It also looked like phoenix rising comments were contradictory. First he stated how he appreciates but doesn’t agree with the comments. But in the next comment he should understand that you are not trying to sell the 13th sign stuff to get rich!. You post Zodiac related material to all . That’s it, information is power. I believe that posting it was worth the knowledge gained. There will always be folks that agree and disagree with your comments. But I realize that its just a comment , not your personal believe.

I have known of the Ophiuchus for about four years now. I have never felt that I fit that of a Sagittarius. I concur with Blue Star on everything. I too have visits from those who are soon to pass, and those who have passed. From the time that I was a little girl, this amongst other things have been happening. People flock to me for healing,by no means am I a physician but they have said that my love of positive energy and effective light draws as well as heals them. (forgive the run on sentences lol).
I must say that everything in my life lines up with the Ophiuchus. I am born December 12, this number 12 has a lot of significance in my life. As I am one of 12 children, again my birthday is 12-12. There are numerous other things that I could hit on, but I do not want to ramble on and take up space.
I know wholeheartedly that I am an Ophiuchus through and through. {smile}

Well if anyone is familiar with the 2012 prophecies, it is said that for the first time in 13,000 years, that the 8 sided cross in the sky will align with the cross here on earth from our equator and such. the sun will also be perfectly inline with both crosses, and that it will be in december..and at that time, when the sun aligns, it is right between scorpio and sagitarius..allowing for ophiucus to be shown through. If any of you are familiar with Nostradamus, and to those of you who aren’t, you should check out the lost book of Nostradamus and check it out..there are pictorials that show ophiucus coming through in the end in 2012..I find all of this very intriguing, and do believe in the 13 sign! As far as them never using the thirteenth sign, it probably has to do with religious beliefs and the fact that it is considered an unlucky number!..anyway, I’ve went on long enough..but i would encourage people to check out The Lost Book of Nostradamus! The existence of Opiuchus and the views of SEA in particular are telling - astrology is BUNK people! Opiuchus is a sign in the stars, just as the other 12 signs are, and the Sun, Moon, and every planet must pass through it. If it has no effect, then nor can any of the other signs - particularly Scorpio, in which the Sun, etc. etc. spends a much shorter time!

By including the 13th sign I found out that I am a Gemini instead of a Cancer and this makes sense for my sun sign. People always told me I was the strangest Cancer they had ever known. I also never agreed with my Sagitarius rising sign. How can I find out if I am actually Ophiuchus/Serpentarius Rising? They didnt add it because think about it . its the 13th sign. 13 is bad luck. in 2012 the sun is susposed to be in perfect alignment with the middle of the milky way galaxy which also happens to be in the middle of the 13th sign. when this happens there will be three eclispes and dark will fall over the sky. people say astrology beleivers dont beleive in god and jesus, well i do and i follow astrolgy and so did nostradomus. he predicted everything through the stars and he prdicted that in 2012 the sun will align perfectly with the galaxy and the 13th sign. back then in the 1600 they didnt no anything about a galaxy or even the fact that it was a swirl shape. how can u deny his predictions.? he predicts what will happen in 2012 and its the final battle. he beleived in god and jesus and so should everyone else, he also followed astrology. everything has everything to do with god. heavy stuff but i think its true i watched at least 6 hours about nostradomus and his predictions and decoding them and its scary and interesting at the same time. i dont think im scared anymore now that i have more answers. he says on the final prediction that we will finally see the knowledge of the tree of life. just thought i would add that in there because he talks alot of the 13th sign.

Okay, I blogged the other article on here too but this is the first time I’ve heard of this 13th sign. I still think it is some kind of an overlap in astrology. I don’t think it chages the whole chart but happens on certain occassions. I am so incredibly sensitive to my spiritual side and match many traits listed. I also feel in touch with my past lives, and other’s past in certain ways. I pick up on people right away, when I get a feeling..there’s no turning back. I am fascinated by this. BTW, I would be on a cusp (Dec 18th, moon in Gemini) Thanks for the info!! I’m not saying the original astrology signs are changed at all, ophiuchus seems it could be it’s own cusp so-to-say, something just..outside of the norm here. the idea had to come from somewhere. Very interesting how I was guided to this. I was looking for the “sign” or symbol used in medicine because I could not remember the name which is caduceus, and another symbol for medicine caught my eye to which I turned only to discover it is the original symbol of medicine and healing, the staff of Asclepius. Asclepius was a mortal who became the god of medicine and healing, (in Greek mythology)and had six daughters three of whom were Meditrine, Hygeia and Panacea, the Three Graces, and who together represent the forces of “all-healing” while their brother, Teleforos, represents the powers of recuperation (quite a healing family.) Now Apollo killed Asclepius’s mother (for falling in love with another.) She was carrying Apolo’s son, Asclepius, and it is Apollo who is said to have performed the first C-section, saving his son and entrusting Asclepius to Chiron (the wounded healer) who taught Asclepius the medicinal arts.
Well Zeus killed Asclepius with a thunder bolt (Lightning) it seems because Zeus did not like Asclepius resurrecting humans (mortals) from the dead (Hades). Then realizing after-the-fact how important Asclepius was, Zeus immortalized Asclepius in the “Heavens” as the constellation Ophiushcus.
I had never heard of this constellation, so I searched for it, found that it appears as a man with his left foot on Scorpio, before Sagittarious, with the snake wrapped around him (whereas the symbol of Asclepius has the snake wrapped around a staff or scepter of power). So I think it interesting to note here that the human being (with knowledge) is the Scepter of Power (balanced with Love and Wisdom)and is the Physician/Healer which is why it is said “Physician heal yourself.”
Interestingly as well is that the Mayan calendar refers to the 13th constellation as does ancient astrology (including Ptolemy).
Now we naturally wish to know how this would impact a chart to incorporate a 13th constellation. So then if one takes the zodiac, a circle, having 360 degrees of arc, and divides the 360 degrees into 13 constellations which correspond in order to each of 13 houses in the zodiacal chart (which we’re constructing) then each constellation and sign would be 27.69 degrees each - hmmm that corresponds to the lunar cycle of 28 days occurring 13 times per lunar year (in every 360 day (lunar)year - perhaps this could be used in programming lunar charts.) Now that still leaves rectification of the planets because their positions according the the Epheremis also excludes the 13th constellation (which would actually be the 10th in a chart of 13) to know precisely where they’d be placed within the rectified houses. (One could not simply accept the positions as cited in the Epheremis, these would also have to be recalculated, since each constellation would occupy 27.7 degrees (actually 27 degrees 69 minutes and 23 seconds,each. This could be done easier in an excel spreadsheet, but the same principles would apply)

In posting, the excel chart became skewed. So I clarify for those who seek to understand it 27.6923 is the size of each of 13 houses in an equal house system for the 13 constellations. This number appears to the immediate right of the Constellation/house name. Then the degrees of arc for each house is given from start to end in the normal 12 house/constellation chart, and to the right of that is the degrees of arc for each house in the 13 house/constellation chart.

All those people who don’t agree with changing the ‘order’ of the Zodiac are in for a big surprise; it doesn’t need to be changed. Although it was never mentioned by scientists officially (which is why hardly anyone thinks that it actually exists), Ophiuchus has been a part of the Zodiac ever since the second century, when Ptolmey included it in his list of fourty-eight constellations. Therefore, the very first list of Zodiac included Ophiuchus. However, later scientists believed that there were only twelve Zodiac, because they did not see Ophiuchus, and were not following a star chart. Modern scientists have also decided that they like the way in which the ‘twelve Zodiac’ fit around our planet, so decided not to correct past mistakes. Obviously, someone found an original star chart somewhere with Ophiuchus’s name on it. Because of their discovery, one can live in hope that the cosmos will regain their original thirteen Zodiac.
Please don’t tell me that I am wrong, as I have done my research thoroughly. The true Circle of Zodiac contains thirteen Zodiac, so the current idea of Twelve Zodiac is the only thing that is at fault here.
Also, I like to believe that Ophiuchus will one day be as famous as the other twelve Zodiac, and that it will regain it’s rightful place on all modern star charts.

Never cared about this but my Birth Date is 11/30/88 and my Chinese Symbol is the Dragon. And the traits for the Sagittarius hav been wrong since i was little so i like the idea of Ophiuchus. And for those whit there pleas for them not to change it, If thats the way it really is u were never that sign to begin wit!!!!!

yea i do know the solar zodiac fits better, all the ppl i have studied with out thier even knowing of it, fit the real sign better. for instance all the so called taurens i have watched, def. fit aries better. they are very active i notice, and agressive, but very loving and protective of thier family..*(classic aries traits). i myself am a cusp of 3 signs. taurus,orion, and gemini. u may say orion doesnt cut into it, but indeed the high reaching arm of the constellation cuts through the bottom part of the sun a few days while the north part of the sun still is in taurus..its very complicated but i understan and know it very well. for neone with ne questions regarding ur sun position, or any planetary one..let me know n i will fill u in on it in complete and honest detail. -thankz

Thanks for the articles! I always thought something was off with me being a Sagittarius. I was born at 11:59pm on Dec 17th and given to adopting parents…after reading about the constellation Ophiuchus I find a lot of similarities. Very much a free spirit, I have always been interested in the peculiar and have always considered myself social but playing role of observer. I have long had a fascination with nature, especially observable patterns and connections with shapes, colors and numbers. It is interesting to me that 13 is a golden number in fractal observations of nature and there are 13 constellations… I have felt connected with plants and tested them on myself even at a very small age (mom would have freaked out!). I am always healing myself through natural means including my mind and body. I have little faith in modern doctors or the modern idea of medicine. I observe a strong understanding of people’s energies and I often give advice by relating experiences to nature. I am also very in tune with animals. I seek the natural balance in everything that I experience. This is just the beginning, anyone else feel similarly? This opens up so many more questions to me about human existence on this planet and our connection with the natural world. At this point I see “time” as a spiral approaching a place of balance like the center of a galaxy…

This is not a humain Zodiac sign. Its the sign of God & higher beings. The time alteration should not exist. The 13th sign is not for us human, but for the Higher Being, his allies & enemy. After reading this this topic and comments through…I laugh at the Sagittarius people here both my little sister & dad is one & boy You Sagitarius folks are a STRANGE group, no offense, but really the 13th sign is not your sign. Its the sign of all HIGHER BEINGS.humans may believe or not believe in. Trust me as Virgo, I have analyzed & researched this for about 4 years. After over 2500 years of working on 12-sign Astrology, someone no one’s ever heard of invents a 13th sign and we’re all supposed to take it on board like gullible sheep. I think not!
The very fact that it is number 13 (”Devil” in the tarot) and the sign of the Serpent (a negative symbol of the Catholic and Christian belief systems) would peak the interest of even the least superstitious Catholic and throw them into convulsions. Besides, by introducing a 13th sign, we’d lose all credibility.

I haven’t read all of the comments posted, but I’ve read until I was satisfied. I was woken up by my brother today, he was telling me that I’m not a Pisces, that I am Aquarius. It made me feel very uneasy, because everything that I’ve read about Pisces was everything about me. But since reading these comments, I’ve found out about it only applying to those born as of 1990, and since I was born in 1988, I’m thrilled to say that I am and always will be a Pisces
I, or course, believe in the constellation of Ophiuchus, and the possibility of it being considered a zodiac, but I will not consider it being a part/change in my life. And that’s okay! My future children will follow whichever zodiac they are born under, Ophiuchus included, but as for me, I’m happy to be who I am. I have a Pisces tattoo on my foot (Pisces rules the feet :-D) and it will always be who I am. The tattoo stays, as I stay Pisces! according to the reassignment i should be a Taurus-fire tiger and not a gemini-fire tiger, which can not possibly be as i am a gemini through and through. i am slightly more homely (which is, I know, a taurus trait) then most gemini’s, but that could be since i was born in the one of the early days of the Gemini month and therefore closer to the taurus sign.

The mysterious sign would make a tremendous amount of sense. Personally, I can understand more about my character as a former Gemini and now an understanding Taurus. I was very confused with my sign, but the difference would be more suitable in my personal traits. Remember, most individuals only go by what is taught, and what is taught may just have some truth but not ALL truth. We may just have been living in some truth and not the whole truth. I will accept the adjustment in my belief, and I will honor the fact that new understandings will bring newer wisdoms. Who told you the serpent IS the “devil” ? You should study old religions: To create a new one “they” have to destroy the precedents . The serpent was used to represent the “devil” because in Babylonian time the serpent was a god among others, nothing more nothing less. Did you know that the Egyptians “invented” a god in three representations long before Jesus did ? That the Babylonians had a virgin-mother goddess ? i have just learned about the 13 sign,I too am a serpentarian snake.i have always thought snakes been given a bad rep.people are afraid of them and they are so close to the earth.most snakes wouldn’t have anything to do with people.and old goddess were shown holding a snake.

I’m intrigued to find out I now may be an ophiuchus. As I don’t believe in the devil (and have no idea where the idea the devil has to do with snakes came from)and the number 13 is my lucky number, I’m thrilled. I would like to know how this changes my element, and stone. Mostly out of curiousity, any or all would fit me fine. I’m having an intersting time watching the response of this news. Some are saying it’s of the devil, and relating that to the Horned God, that gives me a chuckle. Then we have the Mayan believers coming out in force, and breathing life back into Nostradamus again, as he always used 13 signs for his quatrains.
Either way I find it fasinating, and can’t wait to find out more.

As a new Serpentarius (I’m not going with Ophiuchus) I understand the healing thing well. I have pieces of Sagg and then pieces that didn’t fit, but now I do. Just like my life of feeling unaccepted until this year, and now this news comes out. I have been through MUCH healing since 2007, I’ve had leukemia, went into remission, relapsed got treated, found out about a tumor, treated, paralyzed throat, learned to eat and talk again, brain cancer, healed, almost bled to death WHILE paralyzed from the chest down, lived and learned to walk again after being wheel-chair bound within the year. I AM a healer! How’s that for mystical lol.

I am Ophiuchus and all of the traits of this sign fit me perfectly! Why would any other sign wish to deny me my place in the zodiac? Also when will Christians realise that 13 is a sacred number, not the devils number. And the serpent has always been the sign of the healer, long before Christianity even existed. Christianity and its off-springs (including Satanism) is one of the youngest religions on this planet if you don’t count Jedi! The serpent and the 13 were positive good things for millions (yes I said millions) of years before Jesus was even a twinkle in the eye of one of the gods and goddesses. And lets face it, without the Mother Earth non of this discussion would even be going on today would it. The Mother Earth with the blessing and help of the Gods and Goddess sisters in the stars have given us all that we have and to deny them their legacy would be a crime. The idea of Jesus being the son of God wouldn’t even exist if there hadn’t been sons and daughters of the gods before him, and there have been many since. We call them saints, prophets etc. But what is unfortunately forgotten is that each and every one of us is looked upon at birth by one or another of these Gods and Goddesses, and taken under their wing. Christians may call them angels.
At the end of it all if you look hard enough to find the evil in anything you will eventually be rewarded. On the other hand if you look hard enough to find the good you will also be rewarded, but the rewards will be much sweeter! It is time we all woke up to the reality that, just maybe, everyone is right in some way or another and not that everyone who doesn’t see it your way is wrong. Embrace the good in all that there is and peace and love for all of the children of Earth will set you free! I think you understand what I mean

If you are open to astrology existing in the first place, why not be open to a new zodiac sign? It isn’t something somebody decided to just make up one day, it has always been a constellation that exists between Scorpio and Sagittarius but for the past 2000 years was ignored and not included in astrology because they considered it to be inauspicious to have 13 signs. Also, they created the ‘tropical zodiac’ so that the signs fit into the year and the four seasons. This is why there is so much debate over which astrology we should use, because one is about a mathematically created system that was relevent 2000 years ago, and the other is about where the constellations actually are NOW in relation to the earth. I don’t think astrology can be as cut and dried as all this anyway, since Ophiuchus is between scorpio and sag - why not just accept it could mean a blend of the two as well as with it’s own unique qualities? I am now supposedly an Ophiuchus but that doesn’t mean I won’t have qualities of the other energies that surround that particular sign.
Anyone not wanting to accept this new sign obviously have phobias around change. Embrace change, maybe it’s for the better. Number 12? Maybe this is what 2012 is all about anyway. Breaking down of old forms?

the constellation ophiucus has always represented the first decanate of sagittarius. All the signs have always had more than one constellation associated with them. it doesnt represent a new sign. it just represents the first phase of sagittarius. also your chart is cast when you are born, so it isnt possible for it to change.

ok… i’m december 9. of 1989.
Ive been doing astrology for about 5 years allready… and acording to this, im the Serpent holder. i also disagreed about this sign, but when i learned that it was used in many ancient civilisations, i found it logical to hound out more about it, especially since im the one.
allways thought that my strange scences are caused bu the fact that eaven i was double Sagittarius, my Capricorn (goat:) was to strong, and became my subsign (it contains 5 planets, yup, in my 1. house). now, im curious… how could i hind a way to calculate my new natal chart, with the 13th, and figure out the new aspects, house movements and other. i mean, are there gona be shanges about that?
12 or 13 houses, 12 or 13 signs, any “new” planetary influences i should know about?

hey !! i was born dec 6th so that wold put me close to the middle of this sign….i always thought i was a sag but i struggled with the typical sag bio…i’ve read the ophiuchus & so have some of my people they seem to think i suit the ophiucus more than the sag…i tend to agree with them …i don’t have a problem with the new sign ” PEACE “

Sorry one more point that I think will help is that you may want to balance yourself (Ying/Yang)
by thinking that you are part of two signs (look carefully at the day/month of birth) to align yourself in the thirteen zodiac signs rather than one which will give a better discription of who you are - best wishes

If there were once 13 signs of the zodiac, were there once 13 months in the year?
How about 13 months, each with 28 days, representing a woman’s monthly cycle. This would mean that leap year would come every 13 years instead of every 4 years. 26 hour days, 52 minute hours, 52 second minutes. If the last is first & the first is last, would that mean that our present zodiac is backwards?

My sign will not change. Ut I hate the idea of the perfection of 3 signs to each type (water/air/earh/fire) and equal amounts corresponding to h season and how it works with each equinox and solstice. I read that the 13th sign is applicable to one of many forms of astrology.

So I dont know much about star signs but this seems pretty confusing to me. Some people moving not one, but 2 signs over is a big change. Also ive seen comments about this beeing known and used as our western healing symbol becuase of the serpent holder guy, Id like to point out that that symbol is very different and is a serpent on a STAFF and comes from a Bible story with moses not Imhotep or Jacob. Just seemed relevant.
